The Divine Call- Gen. 12:1-4

This Bible story is of great importance because before Abraham, the Spiritual Pilgrim, who was chosen by God to become the father of a new spiritual race, would receive his blessings, he had to step outside of his comfort zone. Religious seeds were already planted in the garden of his heart from which were to spring wonderful results in the church of the future.

Any biblical student will admit that he was the file leader of a great spiritual host. While living with his father in Haran, he received a message from the Lord calling upon him to separate himself from his old associations and go to a new country. In other words, he was called to step outside the box. And if he did, he was promised the divine favor, a great posterity, and that he should become a blessing to all the families of the earth.

He obeyed the call, and, despite how long it took and all the challenges that ensued, he eventually became the leader and father of that innumerable company of pilgrims who have sought a city whose builder and maker is God. The lesson for us here is that whenever we are taken out of our comfort zone, it is not wise to complain but to heed the divine call and eventually we will get the results of our calling.
